Step 1: decide what needs to go
Start by taking a look at all the underwear you currently own, checking for anything worn out which needs replacing. There’s also no point hanging onto items which no longer fit or which are uncomfortable.
Be honest with yourself. You may love a particular bra or panty, but if it has seen better days, just think about how much more you’ll love having a fresh, flawless new replacement – or an upgrade!

Step 2: work out what you’re missing
Second, try to identify any gaps in your collection. Do you regularly find yourself running out of a particular lingerie style or color? Then you’ll benefit from having more of it.
Do you find yourself avoiding certain garments in your closet because you never seem to have the right thing to wear below them? Consider what the ideal underpinnings would be – something that elegantly fills in a too-low neckline perhaps, or which doesn’t create a visible panty line – and that will tell you what you need to shop for.

Step 3: ensure you have the basics covered
No lingerie drawer is complete until you’ve got enough great-fitting, comfortable and practical pieces to meet your day-to-day needs. Everyone’s ‘essentials’ will be a little different based on personal preferences and the types of outfits you typically wear, but here are some suggestions to help you figure out your own must-haves:
Essential everyday briefs
It pays to have a variety of panty silhouettes in your collection, to suit different outfits. For example, hipster briefs are a great for staying hidden when you’re wearing pants or skirts with lower-rise waistlines, while high-waisted briefs offer a smoother silhouette under close-fitting dresses. And for pencil skirts or pants, high leg underwear is a great option since it won’t create any visible lines at the upper thigh.

Camisoles are so multi-purpose – here are seven ways to wear one – that we truly believe they should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe. Step 4 (optional): treat yourself!
Once you’ve decluttered your lingerie drawer and stocked back up on the basics, any leftover budget can go towards those stylish, just-for-fun pieces you’d simply love to have. You may not wear these pieces quite so often, but they still deserve a spot in your collection.
Maybe that means indulging in a vintage style babydoll or some lacy panties for special occasions. Or it might mean adding some more decorative variations of your favorite go-to basics, such as a beautiful satin and lace slip to complement your simpler nylon ones.
Reorganizing and refreshing your lingerie collection is an easily achievable start-of-the-year goal. Take a little time out this weekend to sort through yours and you’ll breeze through the rest of the year, never having to worry about whether you’ve got the right underwear for each day’s outfit.
